Meet the Capita team
Dr. John Burkhardt is the founder and CEO of Capita Solutions. As a neuroscientist and behavioral scientist, he specializes in competitive behavior change. Originally a research scientist, John has worked as a professor of neuroscience and behavioral economics, having served on the faculty at the Columbia University in New York City, NY, the University of Oslo in Oslo, Norway, the Champalimaud Centre in Lisbon, Portugal, and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. His research focused on the neurobiology of action acquisition and selection, and breakdowns in initiation of behavior. Subsequent to his academic career, John worked with the Vitruvian Group, a boutique management consultancy, and iMotions A/S, a software company specializing in biometric research. More recently he served as Director of Behavioral Science at Integrated Systems, Inc, and at BVA Nudge Consulting, behavioral science agencies with practice in both commercial and government sectors.

Vania Cao
Dr. Vania Cao is a neuroscientist and marketer, specializing in targeted communication. An alumna of Inscopix, Natera, the Mayo Clinic, and the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Cao has spent her career bringing scientific rigor to the marketing space. Her work focuses on disruptive products and communications in the scientific, biotech, and healthcare spaces. In the behavior change & design process, Vania specializes in changing hearts and minds. From marketing instrumentation that reveals secrets of biological processes, to helping healthcare providers learn about products with vital patient impact, her work uncovers what customers want, and develops messages and multi-channel campaigns to hit their pain points and influence behavior and drive business decisions.
Actuarial Science, Behavioral Finance
Rich Lauria
Professor Rich Lauria oversees risk management and actuarial studies at Capita, as well as serving as a faculty member in Columbia University’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program. Previously, Rich enjoyed successful actuarial and risk management career as SVP at Assurant, a Fortune 300 specialty insurer. He chaired the company’s ERM, Insurance Risk, and Asset-Liability Management Oversight Committees and played key roles in several risk management initiatives, including risk reviews of major acquisitions. Treasury & Risk Management named Rich to its 2011 list of "100 Most Influential People in Finance." Previously, Rich worked at Swiss Re and Metropolitan Life. A graduate of SUNY-Stony Brook, he is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and holds a CFA designation. Rich has served on the Society of Actuaries' Risk Committee and the board of the Actuarial Society of Greater New York. He is a regular contributor to Stepping Stone, newsletter of the Society of Actuaries, authoring the “Zen Actuary” series.

Hank Liu
Hank Liu is an experienced securities & options trader and risk management specialist. A veteran fund manager, Hank currently oversees financial services, wealth management strategies, and product risk for Capita. Hank earned his undergraduate degree in finance and Ohio University and his master's degree in Enterprise Risk Management at Columbia University.
